PRP and Micro Needling – Pre & Post Care Instructions
PRP Pre and Post Care Instructions
Pre care instruction
During your PRP session, our expert dermatologist at vitals skin and hair clinic will discuss what to expect. When you come in for your personalized treatment, it’s important to remember a few things:
Three days before your procedure, discontinue any anti-inflammatory medication that you are currently using.
One week before your procedure, you should discontinue all blood thinner herbs or supplements.
One to two weeks prior to your procedure, stop using systematic steroids.
Drink plenty of plain water that day.
At least three days before the procedure you should stop smoking and consume no alcohol. Both of these activities can cause harm to the obstructive airway, which may weaken the procedure’s healing process, or smoke can increase the risk of a complication, such as inhaled foreign material.
Eat a light breakfast or lunch before the procedure.
Feel free to shower the day before your PRP, this will help your scalp moisturize and smell more pleasant.
Do not apply any sprays and gels to your hair.
Avoid excessive sun exposure or any heat exposure.
Post care instruction
The PRP process does not include the “healing” of the injury site. Therefore, it is important to take it easy after your PRP Therapy session. The following guidelines will help you to achieve the best possible recovery:
Immediately after the procedure stop taking any pain medications as this will only prolong healing.
Do not exercise for 24-48 hours. This includes the range of motion that you were instructed to do during your treatment.
Do not put weight on the area where the platelet-rich plasma was injected. This could lead to redness, swelling or pain.
Do not massage the area or touch it until it is completely healed.
Do not use any external devices or electrical instruments like trimmers.
Do not shower or swim for eight hours after the procedure.
Avoid applying ice or heat three days after the procedure.
Do not smoke at all and only consume light, non-spicy foods for at least three days following the procedure. Both smoking and drinking things like wine can have an impact on the durability of the procedure, and smoking may reduce its effectiveness too.
Drink plenty of water and eat healthy, nourishing meals.
