    Poly Cystic Ovary Disease (PCOD) is one of the most common hormonal disorders among women of reproductive age. It is characterized by overproduction of androgens (male sex hormones) and development of small cysts on the ovaries.

    Causes of PCOD

    Although the exact cause of PCOD is not known, but following factors could contribute to its occurrence:

    • Genetics or family history of PCOD
    • Environmental factors like exposure to chemicals, pollution etc.
    • Excessive production of insulin
    • Obesity
    • Hypothalamic pituitary abnormalities

    Symptoms of PCOD

    PCOD causes various symptoms in woman, but the major ones affect hair and skin. The three prime skin and hair related symptoms of PCOD are:

    • Hormonal Acne
    • Excessive body hair
    • Hair fall

    Other than these, PCOD also causes general symptoms of whole body like:

    • Weight gain around abdomen
    • Missed or irregular periods

    • Infertility
