What is a scar?

A scar is a result of wound healing after an injury. It can be raised or recessed and is generally different (darker) in color and texture from surrounding healthy tissue that makes it noticeable.

Surgery is performed under local or general anaesthesia and is aimed to remove the scarred upper layer of skin so that new skin can grow.Dermabrasion and laser surfacing are the proven methods that precisely remove the upper layer of the skin.Generally the new skin is smoother than before, and the appearance of the scar is normally reduced.

Hypertrophic or Keloid scars can be removed by performing the surgery and securing the skin with dissolvable stiches that result in less prominent scar.
